What is a Residential Treatment Program?
Residential treatment programs provide intensive help for adults with serious and persistent mental illness. While receiving residential treatment, adults temporarily live outside of their homes and in a safe and sober living home where they can be supervised and monitored by trained staff 24 hours a day. Residential treatment can help adults whose mental health is at risk while living their community. For example, the programs are helpful for those who have not responded to outpatient treatments, who have stability and recovery goals that cannot be met in less restrictive settings in their local community, or who are in need of further intensive treatment following inpatient psychiatric care.
